Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 Could Be Heading to South Africa

Geely has revealed fresh details about the Galaxy Cruiser 700, the Chinese manufacturer's first dedicated off-road SUV, which is reportedly under consideration for the South African market.

A Dedicated Off-Road SUV

Previously known as the Battleship 700 or Zhanjian 700 in some international markets, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 is Geely's first purpose-built off-road sport utility vehicle.

The article notes that the model was first reported as being under consideration for South Africa in January 2026, with new technical details now emerging.

Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain

The Galaxy Cruiser 700 features a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain that combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors. Two of the electric motors are mounted on the rear axle, while the third is positioned at the front.

Together, the hybrid system produces a combined output of 830 kW. The vehicle has a claimed weight of 2,880 kg, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 288 kW per tonne.

Battery and Charging

The plug-in hybrid system is paired with Geely's Golden Short Blade battery pack. While Geely has not officially confirmed the battery capacity, reports from China referenced in the article suggest a capacity of 70 kWh.

This battery is expected to provide an electric-only driving range of up to 350 km (CLTC) on a full charge. The Galaxy Cruiser 700 is also expected to feature 900V electrical architecture, allowing for rapid charging.

Potential South African Introduction

While no official launch date has been confirmed, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 remains under consideration for South Africa, where it could expand Geely's growing local product offering if introduced.
