BMA Vehicle Targeting System Recovers 83 Vehicles Worth R46.6 Million
The Border Management Authority's new Vehicle Targeting System (VTS) has led to the recovery of 83 vehicles, with a combined value of R46.6 million, in the six months since its launch.
The system strengthens efforts to combat vehicle-related crime and improve compliance at South Africa's ports of entry, where stolen and cloned vehicles are frequently moved across borders.
How the system works
BMA Commissioner Michael Masiapato said the system uses technology to identify suspicious vehicles before they reach border officials. This enables Border Guards to focus inspections on vehicles flagged for further checks, while facilitating the movement of compliant travellers.
The recoveries are a practical reminder for used vehicle buyers and dealers alike: cross-border vehicle crime remains active, and verifying a vehicle's identity and documentation before purchase is essential. If you are unsure about a vehicle's history, a thorough check of its registration papers, VIN and microdot particulars can help protect you from buying a stolen or cloned vehicle.
