1989 Ferrari F40 Sells for More Than R80 Million at Auction

A 1989 Ferrari F40 has sold for more than R80 million at auction, making it one of the most notable recent sales of the iconic Italian supercar.

A Highly Original Example

The vehicle, chassis number 83620, has had only two private owners and spent nearly 30 years in dry storage. It has travelled just 1,799 kilometres since new, making it one of the most original examples of the Ferrari F40.

According to the accompanying history report, the car was ordered in June 1989 and built between 15 November and 6 December 1989. It was specified with air conditioning and manual windows and left the factory without catalytic converters or adjustable suspension.

Ferrari F40 Performance

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V8 engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission, producing 352 kW and 577 Nm of torque.

Ferrari claimed a 0–100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 324 km/h.
